Encourage them to find learning moments in their activities and share them with you. In sixth grade they should understand various types of grammar and literature, possess dictionary skills, and be able to find and use online information. Their homeschool algebra study should be expanded to include quadratic equations, relations and functions, radicals and elements of probability.
Expand their learning to studies of comparative cultures and politics with understanding political parties and elections.
Science — You may have a budding scientist on your hands! In sixth grade, they will want to learn more about ecosystems, ecology and environment, nuclear energy, the universe, scientific theory, inventions and discovery and space travel.
At this stage, your child should be able to use computers and calculators, do problem analysis, and understand the concepts of averaging and sampling. As they grow and mature, those skills will help them be successful. Basic concepts of statistics will help them identify trends.
Use current events to help them understand the importance of this subject. Language Arts — Help your ninth grade child develop their skills to evaluate material for accuracy and effective discussion and question techniques.
Social Studies — Citizenship and responsibility are always encouraged for students. They should understand the fundamentals of composition, grammar and vocabulary. Math — Begin to instruct your child on the concepts of budgeting, investing, insurance and banking to start preparing them for independent living.
Learning happens everywhere, and your child may discover relational aspects of the world they had not understood before. Language Arts — Continue to encourage your child to continue reading independently. During these formative years, your teen may be focused more on social activities and relationships.
Solar and nuclear energy continue the study of ecology and the environment, while the nature and causes of disease can be introduced. Social Studies — Begin to introduce economics, taxation and the rights and responsibilities of good citizenship in your ninth grade social studies homeschool curriculum.
